It was probably a happy plane ride home for the Hamline women's tennis team. The Pipers finished their Florida trip on a positive note, defeating Hollins, 8-1, in Orlando on March 21. The Pipers, who went 2-3 in the Sunshine State, head home with an 5-8 overall record. They will take a 1-4 MIAC mark when they return to the conference wars April 2 against St. Olaf.

Maddie Muotka, Elizabeth Hughes, Maggie Gibson and Emily Wollmuth earned two wins apiece in the win over Hollins. Muotka, elevated to the No. 2 singles spot, rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 and then teamed with Emily Butler for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Gibson won her No. 5 singles by a similar margin. Hughes and Wollmuth also won impressively with a pair of 6-0 wins. Hughes and Wollmuth combined for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles with Gibson/Natalie Pieterick earning an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Earlier that day, Gibson scored the lone win at No. 6 singles in an 8-1 loss to St. Scholastica.

On Sunday, March 20, the Pipers also played twice, losing a tough 5-4 decision to Union and an 8-1 finale against Carthage.

HU is off until they face the Oles at Holt Courts. The match begins at 10:00 a.m.
