4/20/2016 10:16:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 It was a game where HU baseball coach Jim Weyandt needed his seniors to show the way -- and they answered the call in style.

Andy Sammon went 4-for-5 with three RBI and Tyler Summers drilled a pair of home runs as part of a six RBI effort in the Pipers' 13-9 win over Bethel Wednesday night in the second game of a doubleheader at CHS Field. The win evened off a 10-3 loss in the opener that kept the Pipers in fourth place in the MIAC with a 6-4 mark (16-10).

Sammon had a day to remember, going 7-for-8, raising his batting average 64 points.

The second sacker went 3-for-3 with a RBI in the first game. That was a warmup act for his impressive second game show.  Sammon had his first of four second game singles in a six run third inning that severed a 2-all tie for good. Summers followed Sammon with a three-run homer.  HU led 9-4 in the eighth inning when the Royals climbed back in the game with three runs. In the bottom of the inning, Sammon and Summers went back to work. Sammon, who is 15-for-31 in his last eight games, started it with a two RBI single and Summers unloaded his second homer of the game to push the lead to 13-7. Summers is now tied with Jacob Picht fo the team lead in total bases with 52.

The runs proved necessary when BU scored twice in the ninth and loaded the bases before Zach Smith squashed the threat to earn his first save. Aaron Stoneberg took over the MIAC lead in wins with his sixth of the year.  The sophomore tossed three innings of relief to improve to 6-1.

Hamline returned to MIAC action Saturday at Concordia. The doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m. HU hosts Wis-Superior in a non-conference pair on Sunday. The games begin at 1:00 p.m.
