Box Score 2 The Hamline softball team played long ball to earn a split at St. Benedict Wednesday. Abbie Annen and Casey Anderson homered to back up Sarah DeMars' second shutout of the season in a 9-0 win that salvaged a split of the doubleheader in St. Joseph.
HU stayed in the MIAC with a 9-5 mark (16-12 overall) with a 14 hit attack. Anderson slapped out three hits with Jamie Rubbelke, Mary-Clare Couillard, Amanda Orrell and Annen adding two each.
The game was scoreless when Annen hit her first career four bagger in the fourth inning. HU scored two in the fifth and Anderson's two RBI homer in the sixth (her second of the season) upped the margin to 5-0. Kelsey McWilliams' two RBI single in the seventh keyed a four run seventh inning rally that put the game out of reach.
DeMars took care of the rest with a seven hitter, walking just one batter, improving to 7-6 overall with a season low ERA .
In the opener, HU managed just four hits in a 3-1 loss. Anderson pitched well, giving up just six hits and walking one but took the loss. HU scored in the sixth when Delaney Kohler singled, moved second when Rubbelke, was sacrificed to third and scored Orrell's grounder.
Hamline plays at Macalester on Friday, April 22. The doubleheader begins at 5:00 p.m. HU hosts St. Mary's at Meredith Field on Saturday, April 23 in a 1:00 p.m. pair.
