Box Score 2 The hits kept coming for Amanda Orrell, Jamie Rubbelke, Mary-Clare Couillard and Chelsea Koehn. The quartet -- all members of the 100 hit club -- advanced their standing Monday as Hamline split a softball doubleheader at Northwestern. The Pipers won the opener, 5-3 but lost the second game, 3-2, in eight innings.
In Game 1, Aubree Douglas went 2-for-4 with three RBI to back solid pitching from Sarah DeMars for the win. The freshman singled home a first inning run and then doubled to key a four run third inning that stretched the Piper lead to 5-0. DeMars breezed from there to improve to 11-7 on the season. She went the first five innings, allowing no earned runs, to get the win. Casey Anderson worked the last two innings.
In Game 2, Rubbelke drilled her team leading fifth home run of the season -- a two run shot in the first inning -- to give HU an early edge. Orrell rapped out three hits to improve her average to .431 -- third best in the league -- with three hits. But the Eagles rallied to tie the game and then won in the first extra frame off DeMars, who had relieved starter Sabrina Warden in the sixth inning.
Hamline, which will make a return to the MIAC playoffs this weekend, is now 23-15 overall. They wrap up the regular season slate with a pair at Wis-River Falls Tuesday. The doubleheader starts at 4:00 p.m.
