Box Score In the spirit of the holiday season,
Bre Simon showed Friday it is perfectly fine to give and receive. The women's hockey sophomore scored twice and set up a third tally as the Pipers defeated St. Catherine, 3-0, Friday at Oscar Johnson Arena. Simon unleashed 10 of the Pipers' 49 shots on goal as HU improved to 5-2-0 overall (4-1-0 MIAC).
The win, however, was anything but easy.
The Pipers came out gunning, outshooting SCU by a 19-3 margin in the first period. The lone goal, however, came when Simon slipped up the left side, took a pass from
Sarah Bobrowski and buried her fifth goal of the season.
The middle period was more even with the Pipers holding a 15-11 edge in shots on goal. HU had the only tally here as well, a play that Simon started and
Jordan Hansen finished off on a power play at 15:34.
It was still a tight 2-0 game midway in the third period when Simon broke free for a shorthanded marker that sealed the deal. Bobrowski, who is second in the league in points with 13, assisted on that goal as well.
Goalie
Annie Juergens knocked away 22 shots -- many of which came while the Pipers were killing off seven penalties. The sophomore ranks second among all MIAC netminders with a 1.10 goals-against average.
The same teams have a return encounter set for Saturday, December 2 at Drake Arena in St. Paul. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
