Box Score Bre Simon took over the MIAC lead in points and tied teammate Darby Dodds for the top in goals but it wasn't enough as Hamline's women's hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to Augsburg Saturday afternoon at Oscar Johnson Arena. The Pipers fell to fourth place in conference play with a 9-5 mark. They trail third place Concordia by one point and are one point ahead of fifth place St. Thomas in the tight battle for playoff positions.

It was an evenly battled game decided by power plays. All three goals came with a player in the penalty box. HU held a 25-24 edge in shots on goal. Unfortunately, they also took six penalties to Augsburg's five -- and that extra citation proved to be their undoing.

The Auggies used goals early in the second and third periods to build a 2-0 lead. Hamline kept attacking, finally cashing when Simon tucked a shot under the crossbar at 16:40. it was her 15th goal of the season and 25th overall points, tying her teammate in goals. The Elk River, Minn. freshman also has 10 assists to lead the conference by a single point.

Annie Juergens recorded 22 saves for HU, which now stands 11-9-1 overall.

The Pipers return to the ice next weekend for a series with St. Catherine. The teams will meet at Drake Arena in St. Paul on Friday, February 10 at 7:00 p.m. The rematch is Saturday, February 11 at Oscar Johnson at 2:00 p.m.
