HU softballer
Casey Anderson got her 2017 season off to a flying start by going 3-for-6 at the plate and hurling a 2-hit shutout as Hamline defeated Northland, 5-3, and 5-0, in West St. Paul afternoon.
The senior wasn't the only serious softball swatter.
Aubree Douglas,
Chelsea Koehn and
Mary-Clare Couillard also had three hits as part of an 18-hit effort in the two games.
Anderson plated the first run of the season with a solo homer in the second inning of the season opener. Koehn's two RBI double in the fourth inning proved to be the difference.
Sarah DeMars went the distance, scattering seven hits. She walked four and struck out nine.
Anderson moved to the mound for the second game and held the Lumberjills at bay throughout. She walked two, fanned eight and did not allow a runner past second base. She and Couillard had two hits each at the plate.
The Pipers are off until Thursday, March 16 when they start a 10-game sojourn in the Tucson, Arizona area. First up: Suffolk and Mayville State.
