Box Score 2 Chelsea Koehn and
Casey Anderson are showing senior leadership on the field for the HU softball team. Koehn took over the team lead in batting average (.446) by whacking out four hits on the day and Anderson earned her seventh win of the season as Hamline split a doubleheader with Bethel Thursday at Meredith Field. HU won the opener, 5-2 but dropped the finale, 10-1, in six innings.
In the opener, Koehn went 3-for-4, scored twice and knocked in a run as part of a 15-hit Piper offensive attack.
Ramsey Hare also had three hits with Anderson and
Kira Krueger adding two apiece. The Pipers broke a scoreless tie with two fourth inning runs. The Royals replied with an unearned tally in the fifth frame but came back with two in the bottom of the inning and added a solo tally in the sixth. Anderson tossed her eighth complete game, a seven-hitter with two walks and four strikeouts to improve to 7-4 overall.
In the second game, the Royals scored the game's first six runs. HU got on the board in the fifth when Koehn singled and
Mary-Clare Couillard doubled her home. BU, however, came back with three in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Hamline is now 14-10 overall, 9-3 in the MIAC. They are tied with St. Thomas for second place in the loop, two games behind league-leading St. Benedict. HU plays at St. Catherine (8-4) Saturday in a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
