Box Score As they loosened up at Hutton Arena Friday afternoon, Head Volleyball Coach Maggie Meixl was hoping her team would be aggressive from the start of the season opening matches against North Central and Wis-River Falls that night in Northfield. The Pipers lived up to expectations in a 3-0 win over the Rams in the season opener for both teams. Hamline finished with a .423 attack percentage in a 3-0 decision over the Rams. Cass Bittle was particularly sharp, finishing with a team high 12 kills and a.706 attack percentage. Marisa Franco added seven kills and Danica Hanson dealt six as HU submerged their Minneapolis-based rivals by 25-13, 25-10, 25-12 counts.

Megan Rubbelke had an excellent debut as a setter with 16. Morgen Coleman added nine. Megan Anderson led the way from the rear flank with nine digs with Franco aiding and betting with five.

Unfortunately, a match against Wis-River Falls didn't go as well. After HU won the first set, 25-17, the Falcons came back to win three taut sets in a row by scores 25-22, 27-25 and 25-21. Thus the Pipers ended the first day of the season with a 1-1 record.

Bittle had another strong effort with 14 kills and Hanson added 12. Rubbelke contributed 20 sets with Coleman adding nine and four service aces. Caddie Doerr dished up 12 digs with Anderson contributing nine.

The Pipers return to Northfield Saturday to tangle with Martin Luther and Carroll (Wis.). The matches will be held at Carleton and is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m and 5:00 p.m.
