Box Score 19 hours after winning a defensive struggle, the Hamline women's hockey team went on the offense and skated to a 4-4 OT tie at Augsburg Saturday.
Madison Kolbow scored twice with
Melanie Bartenstein and
Bre Simon adding solos as the Pipers stretched their school record undefeated streak to nine games in a row with a 10-2-2 overall mark. The deadlock allowed the Pipers (6-1-1 in MIAC play) to remain in first place, 2 points ahead of Gustavus Adolphus. The Auggies are tied with Concordia and St. Thomas for third, with 10 points.
The game started out like the 1-0 affair from the night before. Bartenstein changed all that with her first goal of the season early in the second period. The Auggies subsequently matched that. Kolbow's first of two, on a feed from
Darby Dodds, came with nine seconds left in the middle frame and gave Hamline some momentum heading into the third period.
Then the pucks began to fly in earnest. Augsburg tied the game at 5:37. Kolbow's second of the game -- and fourth of the season -- put HU ahead 3-2 at 7:36 of the 3rd. An Auggie power play goal -- Augsburg's third of the game -- knotted the game at 3. Simon's league leading 16th of the season at 13:31 gave HU a 4-3 lead. However, the Auggies came back again to score -- and that proved to be the end of the scoring.
Annie Juergens had 31 saves -- two in the five-minute overtime -- for Hamline in goal.
The Pipers get back on the ice January 19 at TRIA Rink against St. Olaf (2-8-3, 1-4-2 MIAC). Game time is 7:00 p.m. The teams play in Northfield the next afternoon.
