Box Score 2 One day after their bats did the heavy lifting, the Piper softball arms did their turn. Hamline held Wisconsin-Superior to no runs and just nine hits in recording a 4-0, 9-0 doubleheader sweep Tuesday at the West St. Paul Dome. HU improved to 4-0 indoors in the process.
Kira Krueger used just 65 pitches to subdue UWS on six hits in the opener. The sophomore walked two and fanned three. The Pipers played small ball in this one to get their runs. The first run came when
Abbie Annen raced in from third while
Sydney Fransiscus was being (intentionally) run down between first and second base. One inning later,
Angela Wollmuth (pictured, who was 3-for-4 on the day), doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch and came home on an
Aubree Douglas sacrifice fly. Later, Krueger doubles and
Blair Tommelein chased her home with a triple and the final run came via a
Delaney Kohler RBI single.
In the nightcap,
Sabrina Warden and
Alex Molloy teamed up for a five inning three hitter. Tommelein and Wollmuth were each 2-for-2. HU scored three in the third and put the game out of reach with a six run fifth inning that saw 11 batters go to the plate.
The Pipers are off until Friday, March 16 when they start a California road trip with a doubleheader at Occidental.
