Box Score 2 If his first effort is any indication,
Nolan Schoonveld is ready for the 2018 baseball season. The junior righthander tossed six scoreless, walk free innings to lead the Pipers to a 9-2 win over Wisconsin-Stout and a split of the season opening doubleheader at US Bank Stadium early Thursday morning.
Schoonveld fanned three as well to ease the memory of a 6-2 loss in the first game of the season.
The Middleton, Wis. native helped at the plate as well. He led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and raced home on
Nick Kukurich's double to give the Pipers a quick 1-0 lead. HU added five runs in the second inning and never looked back to draw even for an evening and early morning of ball. Kukurich,
Mitch Benson and
Cullen Buck drove in two runs each for Hamline. Kukurich and
Jeremy Szura also scored twice.
In the first game, the Blue Devils jumped to a 4-0 lead after four innings. In the fifth frame, Schoonveld singled home and Kukurich doubled to plate a second tally. HU loaded the bases but failed to scored any more runs.
Evan Bayer, who started and worked the first 3.2 innings, took the loss.
The Pipers take to US Bank Stadium on Friday, March 9 against Milwaukee School of Engineering in a doubleheader slated to begin at 11:30 p.m. The teams also meet on Sunday, March 11 at US Bank at 5:00 a.m.
