Softball Swings Hefty Sticks in Sweep of Cobbers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Hamline softball team had a lot to discuss during a four hour ride home from Moorhead Thursday. The Pipers batted out 18 runs and 22 hits in a 9-0, 9-2 sweep of the Cobbers that moved Hamline to a 4-2 mark in MIAC play and a 11-9 record overall. 

Megan Rubbelke had a big stick in game 1, going 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. The freshman even pitched the final inning in relief of Alex Molloy, who blanked CC on three hits over five innings to gain the win. Rubbelke had company at the plate. Abbie Annen, Aubree Douglas and Kira Krueger had two hits apiece in a 13-hit assault.  Rubbelke, a freshman, doubled in two runs in the top of the first inning. She singled, stole a base and scored a run in the third inning, singled as part of the four run fourth and capped a productive day at the plate with a sixth inning home run. 

Hamline banged out nine hits and stole six bases in the second game. HU scored runs in five of the first six innings. Blair Tommelein led the way with three trips across the plate.  Annen had two hits and two RBI. Rubbelke and Krueger knocked in two runs apiece while a trio of pitchers held CC in check, allowing just five hits. 

Six of the nine regular hitters in the Hamline batting order have a .300 batting average or better and a seventh is at .293. 

The Pipers will be at Augsburg's dome this weekend to face Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 a.m. and Augsburg on Sunday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m.
