Box Score 2 The Hamline softball pitching staff rose early and came out firing, holding Gustavus Adolphus without a walk, two runs and seven hits in a 2-0, 6-2 doubleheader sweep in games played at Augsburg's dome.
Aubree Douglas had four hits and
Delaney Kohler added three as HU improved to 6-2 in MIAC play and 13-9 overall.
Alex Molloy (pictured) used just 70 pitches en route her second CG shutout of the season. She walked none, fanned five batters and, at one point in the game, retired 15 straight batters, none of which could hit the ball out of the infield. The Pipers broke the tie in the second inning when
Sydney Fransiscus doubled and rode home on an
Angela Wollmuth single. In the fifth inning,
Blair Tommelein singled, stole second base and scored on
Megan Rubbelke's two out single.
All the scoring in the second game took place in the first inning. Three of the first GAC batters singled to produce two runs. Molloy,
Kira Krueger and
Sabrina Warden settled in and held the Gusties to a lone single over the next six innings. The Pipers combined two hit batters and five hits to rack up a half dozen runs in their half of the frame.
Angela Wollmuth had the big blow of the inning, a bases loaded triple to center field.
Hamline's cumulative pitching ERA dropped half a run to 4.48 with the solid morning's work. (The first game started at 7:23 a.m.).
HU will be back at the Augsburg dome Sunday at 1:00 p.m. They will be the home team against Augsburg. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
