4/22/2018 5:54:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The hits kept on coming Sunday for Hamline softballer Aubree Douglas. The junior went 6-for-8 in a doubleheader against Augsburg and is now leading the conference with a .479 average (34-for-71). Unfortunately, it came on a day when the Pipers dropped a pair of frustrating games to Augsburg, 4-2, in eight innings and 8-5 to drop to 6-4 in conference play.  Blair Tommelein and Riley Husom had three hits on the day for the Pipers, who now stand 13-11 overall. The games were moved from Meredith Field to Augsburg's dome due to field conditions. Hamline still served as the home team.

HU got out of the gate fast Sunday in the first game, taking advantage of some early wildness for a pair of bases loaded walks in the first inning and a 2-0 lead. The Pipers threatened several times but could not muster another run. Augsburg scored twice in the fifth and then managed two in the eighth despite the fact that none of the four hits left the infield.

In the second game, Augsburg scored in the top of the first inning and the Pipers promptly got it back on doubles by Abbie Annen and Douglas. The Auggies took advantage of an error in the second to scored five times, three of which were unearned. HU inched back into contention with two runs in the fourth inning. In the sixth, Douglas' fourth hit of the game -- a two RBI single -- got Hamline within a run at 6-5. In th seventh, however, Augsburg singled home a run and an error produced another. It obscured a yeoman relief effort by Sabrina Warden, who went 5.1 innings in relief of starter Kira Krueger

The Pipers have a busy week ahead. They play at St. Benedict (22-6, 9-3 MIAC) Tuesday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m. and then visit league leader St. Thomas Wednesday, April 25. They will play their first games of the years at Meredith Field on Friday, April 27 against Macxalester (3:30 p.m.), visit Carleton on Saturday, April 28 (1:00 p.m.) and finish the hectic slate against St. Catherine at Meredith Field on Sunday, April 29 (1:00 p.m.).
