Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Angela Wollmuth has quickly become accustomed to the pace of college softball. The freshman had two hits in each game of a doubleheader at St. Benedict to stretch her hitting streak to six games in a row. Unfortunately, the Pipers ended up on the short end of two tight decisions, losing both ends of the twin bill in St. Joseph, 2-1 and 5-4, in nine innings. HU now stands even for the season with a 13-13 overall mark and a 6-6 MIAC standard.
Wollmuth had a pair of singles in the opener.
Alex Molloy allowed just five hits in the opener but gave up a two RBI single in the fifth inning that broke a scoreless tie. HU rallied in the seventh when
Megan Rubbelke and
Kira Krueger led off with singles. A fielder's choice moved Rubbelke to third and she scored on a
Sydney Fransiscus groundout. Wollmuth followed with her second hit of the game but that was as close as HU could get. The Savage, Minn. native has raised her batting average 35 points to .328 for the season.
Aubree Douglas also had four hits in the doubleheader to stretch her hitting streak to eight games in a row. The junior, who has 19 hits in 31 at bats in the current streak (.613 BA) leads the MIAC with a .487 batting average.
In Game 2, Krueger's two RBI double in the top of the first inning staked Hamline to an early lead. CSB rallied for a 3-2 but Krueger's RBI double tied the score at 3. In the seventh, Wollmuth doubled for her fourth hit of the day and was chased home by an
Abbie Annen triple. The Blazers came back and tied the game in the bottom of the inning and won it in the second extra frame.
Hamline gets right back to it Wednesday, April 25 at St. Thomas. The doubleheader starts at 3:30 p.m.
