SB Loses Two Tough Ones To Carleton

4/28/2018 9:17:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 It was a "close but ..." kind of day for the Hamline softball team. The Pipers hung with Carleton all day in Northfield but came up a run short twice, losing 1-0 and 3-2 games to the Knights. As a result, Hamline fell to 8-10 in MIAC play and 15-17 on the season. The Pipers need to win their four remaining games and get some help to advance to the MIAC playoffs for the third straight season.

Aubree Douglas continued her season long assault on MIAC pitchers with a double and a single in Game 1. The Knights scored a first inning run against Alex Molloy, who allowed just four hits. Unfortunately, HU could not get a runner past second base and was blanked.

In Game 2, Carleton scored three times in the fourth inning for a 3-0 lead. Hamline responded the next inning. Riley Husom singled. Sydney Fransiscus was safe on an error. Blair Tommelein beat out a bunt to load the bases with no outs. Delaney Kohler singled in a run. With one out, Kira Krueger lofted a sacrifice fly for a second run. Alas, that was as close as HU could get.

Douglas retained her league lead in batting average at .474 with a 3-for-5 day. She had hits in 12 of her last 13 games.

The Pipers play their final games of 2018 at Meredith Field on Sunday, April 29 against St. Catherine (22-11, 15-3 MIAC). The doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m.
