Softball Senior Sunday Sendoff

4/29/2018 4:50:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The on-field results weren't what was hoped for but Hamline bade a Meredith Field farewell to three seniors playing their last home games Sunday. Abbie Annen, Sydney Franciscus and Roxanne Reinfeld (shown with their families) were honored between games of the doubleheader with St. Catherine. The trio were members of teams that made the MIAC playoffs three years in a row, coming close to the NCAA tournament last year when they were defeated in the MIAC championship game.

Unfortunately, on this Sunday, the Piper bats were silenced by some excellent Wildcat pitching and defensive work and tough luck hitting. HU dropped both ends of the doubleheader, 3-0, and 4-0. The Pipers are now 15-19 overall and wrap up the season Tuesday, May 1 with a doubleheader at Bethel.

In Game 1, Aubree Douglas spoiled SCU's Krista Flugstad bid for a perfect game with a two out single in the seventh inning. Several Pipers hit the ball hard but it either went directly at a fielder or a good defensive play kept runners off base. Kira Krueger started on the mount and took the loss.

HU had four hits in the nightcap, including hits by Annen and Reinfeld (who also drew a walk) in their final home appearance. SCU took advantage of a pair of errors for two first inning runs and added two in the seventh off Alex Molloy

Hamline will wrap up the season in Arden Hills with a 3:30 p.m. twinbill.
