Gymnastics Wins Season Opener

Paced by a 1-2-3 finish in the Floor Exercise, Hamline opened the 2019 gymnastics season on a winning note, pulling away from Wis-Oshkosh, 183.525-181.925 Sunday at Walker Field House.

Darby Slater (9.675), Meghan Webb (9.600) and Caitlin Cooper (9.450) led the finishing touch in the Pipers' final routine to get 2019 off in  the right direction. Lydia Ingram also scored a win for HU, taking the top spot on the Uneven Parallel Bars with a 9.275 score. Cooper and newcomer Carolina Schlawiedt tied for fourth place at 9.075

Webb was second on the Balance Beam (9.450) followed closely by Ingram (9.425) and Lauren Faust (9.400). Rosie Giese was the top Piper on the Vault with a second place effort at 9.325 points. 

Nikki Johnsen was third in the All-Around competition in her first collegiate meet with a 34.375 effort. 

Hamline heads to the University of Minnesota January 12 for the annual Best of Minnesota competition . The Pipers will join the Gophers, Winona State and Gustavus Adolphus for the meet which starts at 4:00 p.m.
