It didn't take long for
Courtney Fenech to get accustomed to the pace. The freshman made her first appearance at No. 1 singles for the Hamline women's tennis team a successful one with a 6-2, 6-2 win against St. Olaf Friday in Owatonna, Minn. The Pipers also got singles wins from
Ali Kopiecki at No. 2 (7-6, 6-1) and
Megan Anderson at No. 6 (6-2, 6-4) but lost the match, 6-3.
Kopiecki and Anderson improved to 2-0 in singles matches for the young season.
The final score was deceptive as things came very close to reversing directions. Fenech and Kopiecki lost a tight No. 1 doubles match, 8-6. Anderson and
Natalie Pieterick came even closer at No. 3, losing by an 8-7 (7-5) margin.
Hamline is now 1-1 overall, 0-1 in MIAC play. They face Carleton at Baseline Tennis Center on the U of Minnesota campus on Sunday, February 17 at 2:30 p.m.
