MIAC Baseball Opener Moved To Sunday at St. Thomas

3/30/2019 10:30:00 AM

CHS Field isn't quite ready for baseball. Accordingly, Hamline will open MIAC play closer to their home campus one day later than originally planned. The Piper-St. Olaf doubleheader, which had been scheduled for Saturday, March 30 at CHS will instead commence at St. Thomas' North Field on Sunday, March 31.

The first game will start at 11:00 a.m. As per MIAC rules, the first game will be a seven inning affair and the nightcap will go nine innings (unless the first game goes extra innings). As is the case at CHS Field for HU games, there will be no admission charge.

The Pipers will take a 7-8 overall record into their conference opener. HU won five of nine games while in Tucson, Arizona last week. St. Olaf comes into the twinbill with a 9-4 overall standard.

It's the start of a busy week for coach Jim Weyandt's team. HU will play a single, nine-inning, non-conference day at Northwestern on Monday, April 1. The Pipers then  plunge headfirst into MIAC play with a doubleheader at Bethel on Wednesday, April 3 (2:30 p.m. start) and against Augsburg at Parade Stadium in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday, April 6 (1:00 p.m.)

HU will play its first game at CHS on Thursday, April 11 against Wis-Stout. The nine-inning, non-conference game will start at 4:00 p.m. It's the start of a 11-game homestand that includes MIAC doubleheaders against St. Mary's, Macalester, Gustavus Adolphus and St. Thomas.
