It was about as close to an even tennis match as one could imagine. The Hamline women's team battled St. Benedict all day, dropping a 5-4 decision at Baseline Tennis Center Saturday.
Two of the singles matches went to tie breakers and one of the doubles matches was decided by a bare 8-6 margin.
Hamline's
Courtney Fenech (pictured) earned a win at No. 2 singles (her fourth straight triumph) and teamed up with
Natalie Pieterick for a win at No. 2 doubles. HU also got singles wins from
Ali Kopiecki and
Megan Anderson, stretching their winning streaks to seven and five matches respectively. Kopiecki is now 11-3 in singles on the season. Anderson, now 8-4 in 2019, won an exhausting tiebreaker, 11-9, to take her match.
Hamline fell to 7-7 on the season, 0-5 in MIAC play. The Pipers return to the court April 5 to take on St. Mary's.
