ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline University gymnastics team had a tough test in their 2020 season-opener, taking on University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, who took third at the NCGA Championships last season. The Warhawks won the meet 185.825-180.850.

First year
Tisana Lowe had a notable collegiate debut for the Pipers, tying for third in the Floor Exercise and placing fifth on Vault. On Floor, she compiled a score of 9.550 and on Vault she had a 9.325, both of which were the top marks for Hamline in the respective events.

Senior
Caitlin Cooper was the next Piper in on the Floor Exercise with a 9.200 and sophomore
Katie Viles recorded a 9.150, which were good for seventh and eighth place finishes, respectively.

On the Vault, first year
Bailee Davis had the second-best HU score, after Lowe, tallying a 9.300 which put her in seventh. Right behind her was sophomore
Nikki Johnsen with a score of 9.225.

Viles, in addition to her Floor Exercise score, also helped the Pipers on the Balance Beam, placing second with a score of 9.525. First year
Madeline Sowinski had the next highest score for Hamline in the event, taking fourth with a score 9.450 and senior
Lydia Ingram tied for sixth with a 9.325.

On the Uneven Parallel Bars Hamline had finishers in third through sixth place. Sophomore
Carolina Schlawiedt led the way for HU, taking third with a score of 9.100. Ingram was next with a score of 8.825, followed by junior
Emma Patterson with a score of 8.750. Junior
Mary Kelly rounded out the top-six with a score of 8.700.

 As a team, the Pipers scored highest on the Beam, compiling a score of 46.275 in the event. Close behind their Beam score was the Vault, where they accumulated a score of 46.050.

Hamline has another home meet next weekend, taking on UW-La Crosse on Saturday, January 18 in Hutton Arena. The meet is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
