MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Hamline women's swimming and diving team capped off their 2019-20 season this past weekend, taking eighth place out of 11 teams at the MIAC Championships hosted at the Jean Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The Pipers totaled 164 points during the meet.
 
St. Catherine won the championship with 700.5 points, marking the first time in their school history that they claimed first place. St. Thomas came in second with 664 points and Gustavus rounded out the top three with 626.5 points.
 
HU was 15 points behind Macalester who took seventh, but 79 points ahead of Saint Mary's who finished with 85 points to take ninth.
 
A handful of Piper swimmers made it to the finals, being highlighted by Alex Torgrimson who swam in three different events. She compiled her best finish in the 200 Butterfly, placing ninth with a time of 2:14.05. In the 200 Individual Medley, she placed 13^th with a time of 2:13.32 and she added a 10^th-place finish in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:43.82.
 
In addition to Torgrimson, Bryce White, Bennett Nigro, and Sarah Wood all competed in more than one finals race as well. White placed in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle races, taking 13^th in the 50 Free (24.98) and 14^th in the 100 Free (54.60).
 
In the Breaststroke races, both Wood and Nigro placed in each. Wood took 10^th in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:08.70 and 12^th in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:32.07. Nigro was 16^th in both races, recording times of 1:12.70 and 2:36.81, respectively.
 
In the 3M Dive, Courtney Broyles placed fifth with a score of 394.30, earning Hamline 14 points.
 
The Pipers also had four relay teams compete in the meet. The 200 Medley Relay team comprised of Sydney McCutchen, Wood, Nigro, and White had HU's best finish, taking seventh with a time of 1:57.06.
