ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline University gymnastics team opened the 2021 season strong with a 177.675-174.625 win over the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire on Thursday night at Walker Field House.

The Pipers had 10 finishers place in the top-four throughout the meet, with one event winner in sophomore
Danielle Jaworski, who won the vault with a score of 9.300. HU also had two gymnasts finish in second as part of a three-way tie on the vault. Juniors
Emily Anderson and
Nikki Johnsen each recorded a 9.200 to tie UW-Eau Claire's Tia Ravara for second. First year
Nadia Abid tallied a 9.100 to round out the top five. The team vault score was 45.700.

As a team, the Pipers totaled their best score on the beam (45.900), taking home second through fifth place finishes. Sophomore
Madeline Sowinski had the top mark for HU with a 9.425 and Johnsen was close behind with a 9.325. Junior
Katie Kalland placed fourth with a 9.225 and junior
Katie Viles took fifth with a 9.100.

On floor the Pipers recorded 44.675 points, once again having the second through fifth place finishers. Sophomore
Elizabeth Schauer led Hamline in the event, taking second with a 9.200. Sophomore
Bailee Davis was in a close third with a 9.175. Senior
Mary Kelly took fourth with a 9.100 and Sowinski placed fifth with an 8.900.

Jaworski also tallied the top score on bars for HU, with an 8.900 that was good for fourth place. Junior
Carolina Schlawiedt was next in with an 8.300, which put her in fifth. As a team the Pipers finished with 41.400 points in this event.

Ravara won the all-around competition with a score of 37.175, as she won the floor (9.250), the beam (9.525), the bars (9.200), and tied for second on vault (9.200).

The Pipers will have a little bit of a break before their next competition, as they will head to Gustavus on Friday, March 12 for a 5:00 p.m. meet.
