ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline gymnastics team (2-2) finished their 2021 campaign on Thursday night, hosting UW-La Crosse (3-1) to Walker Field House. For the second meet in a row, the Pipers totaled over 180 points, finishing with 181.000 on the night. The Eagles tallied 187.300 to win the meet.
HU also celebrated their two seniors during the meet,
Mary Kelly and
Emma Patterson, who completed their collegiate career with the final home meet.
The Pipers recorded their top score on floor, with 46.750 points, which was their best mark on floor this season. UWL topped that with 47.575 points, but HU had the event winner in sophomore
Madeline Sowinski, who scored a season-high 9.600. Kelly had the second-best score for HU, with a season-best 9.475, which put her in sixth. This was the third meet in a row where Kelly had improved on her previous meet's score, starting with a 9.100 against UW-Eau Claire, a 9.150 against Gustavus, a 9.400 against UW-Stout, and finishing with the 9.475.
Sophomore Daneille Jaworski finished with a 9.375 to take eighth and junior
Katie Viles scored a 9.200 to take ninth. Both were season-bests.
Hamline also scored well on beam, with 46.000 points. The Eagles scored 46.750 and had the event winner in Olivia Opheim, who put up a 9.550.
Junior
Nikki Johnsen, sophomore
Bailee Davis, and Sowinski had the top scores for the Pipers in the event. Johnsen put up a new season-best score with a 9.450, which was good for a top-three finish. Davis was close behind with a 9.400 (also a season best) to place fourth and Sowinski took sixth with a 9.250.
On vault, HU scored 44.550 points to UW-Lacrosse's 47.200. Johnsen and junior
Emily Anderson recorded the best marks for the Pipers, tying for fifth with a 9.250.
On bars, Hamline had 43.700 points and the Eagles totaled 45.775. Sowinski had the best score for HU in the event, with a 9.050, which tied for fourth. Jaworski and Johnsen were next, tying for seventh with an 8.950.
The team score of 181.00 was less than a point off their best score on the year, which was a 181.550 that was recorded at UW-Stout on March 20.
