Barons Top Pipers in Close 5-4 Match

ORLANDO, FLA.—The Hamline University women's tennis team opened their spring break trip with a match against Franciscan in Orlando, Florida on Monday night. The Pipers dropped a 5-4 decision to the Barons.

Hamline falls to 0-8, while Franciscan improves to 14-2.

"Great effort from our women," said Pipers head tennis coach Spencer Jones. "Almost won a match giving up three-of-five spots. Taylor Vyskocil had her best career win in singles with a huge comeback against a great player."

The Pipers exited doubles with a 2-1 lead behind victories from Taylor Vyskocil/Lily Vang (8-5) in No. 1, and Sydney Hubbard/Taylor Hopkins (8-3) in No. 2. The singles flight resulted in two victories for the Pipers as Vyskocil came through with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 decision in the No. 2 spot, while Sydney Hubbard prevailed with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 position.

The Pipers will face Springfield in Orlando, Florida on Tuesday, March 15 at 11:30 a.m. (ET).
