DECORAH, IOWA—The Hamline University men's track & field team competed at the Luther Invitational on Saturday. The Pipers won the team title with 198 points.
Ricky Kwabena Yawson broke his own school record in the 60 meter dash finals with a time of 6.94, good enough for first place. Kwabena Yawson, who notched a 6.98 in the prelims, previously broke the school record with a 6.95 on two occasions; the St. Thomas Invitational on January 17, and the Macalester Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on January 25. Andrei Pettis trailed Kwabena Yawson with a second-place time of 7.08 in the finals, followed by Dawson Schaffer's third-place mark of 7.15.
Kwabena Yawson kept the titles rolling with a 23.11 in the 200 meter dash, while Reece Thomas took second with a 23.29. The Pipers occupied the top two spots on the 60 meter hurdles podium courtesy of Jackson Lightner (8.61) and Morris Suah (8.72). Suah kept the second-place trend alive with a 1.82m in the high jump, as did Oliver Engstrom with a 3.39m in the pole vault.
Isaiah Watson won the long jump title with a 6.31m. Josiah Budiman wasn't far behind in second place with a 6.25m. Watson also claimed the triple jump championship with a 13.19m, while Abdoul Gueye notched a second-place leap of 12.41m.
The shot put saw Eddie Herman register a toss of 11.89m, good enough for second place.
The Pipers will compete at the Saint John's Invite on Saturday, February 15.
