That was quite an opening act for Hamline senior men's thrower Eric Dols. The Prior Lake, Minn. native started 2019 in impressive fashion, unfurling a 62-4 effort won the Weight Throw competition at the St. Thomas Opener January 11.

The throw was more than just a winning effort. It broke the old mark of 61-0.75 feet set by Brennan McKeag in 2012 and gave Dols his second school record. Dols also holds the school standard outdoors for The Hammer.

In the first week of the indoor season, Eric's effort ranks second best among D-III throwers. Dols and his mates continue their prep towards the MIAC Indoor meet in March on January 11 when they head to Northfield for a meet with St. Olaf and Carleton.
