Hamline's men's hockey team has dropped just one of the last four games they have played. They look to extend that string this weekend when they take on St. John's in a home and home series. The teams meet in Vadnais Heights on Friday, January 25 at 7:15 p.m. They repair to head coach
Doc DelCastillo's old homestead -- the National Sports Center in St. Cloud -- Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for the rematch.
Last weekend, the Piper defense (notably goalie
Matt Hemingway) were on their game in 1-1 and 2-2 OT ties with Augsburg. Hamline now has four ties on the season, the most of any D-III school. They are 1-14-4 overall, 1-7-2 in the MIAC.
Soph defenseman
Joe Rubbelke continues to impress. His six goals and 10 assists lead all MIAC blueliners and ranks in the top 10 in the league.
Brandon Zurn ranks fourth among first year scorers with five goals and eight assists. Hemingway, who has allowed just five goals in his last 254 minutes of action, has lowered his GAA to 3.13.
The Johnnies stand 8-6-3 overall, 3-3-2 in MIAC play. They are coming off a sweep last weekend at Concordia. After a slow start, SJU is 7-7-2 in its last 11 games.
John Haeg, a sophomore, leads them in scoring with seven goals and 10 assists. Freshman goalie
Saxton Soley
has played very well, holding opponents to 2.22 GAA in 11 games.
This is the final HU game this season at Vadnais Heights. The final "home" game will be played in Rosemount on Friday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. Gustavus Adolphus will be the opponent.
