Marolyn Saulsberry flew to victory in winning the 400 Hurdles to lead Hamline's women's team to a fifth place finish at the annual MIAC Track & Field Meet held May 9-10 at St. Olaf College.
The sophomore won by more than a second, finishing in a time of 63.09 seconds. She also was third in the 100 Hurdles (14.85).
Hamline's final total of 83 points was just 9.3 points behind fourth place St. Benedict.
Marolyn's twin sister
Carolyn had the Pipers' lone second place finish fo the day when she went 37-5 in the Triple Jump. (The winner, Concordia's Hilary Thompson, set a stadium record by going 38-9.) Carolyn was directly behind her sister in the 100 Hurdles, checking in with a time of 15.18 seconds.
Jessica Putland was fifth in the Shot Put (41-10 1/2) as was the 4 x 100 Meter Relay team of
Mikayla Hensch, Hope Hertz, Keelie Sorensen and
Gabby Koel. The latter's time of 49.90 broke a seven-year old school record.
The Pipers also recorded back-to-back finishers in the Steeplechase as
Dani Vitali was sixth and
Hannah Toedter came in seventh.
Sara Nester took eighth in the Triple Jump. The 4 x 400 Relay team (which featured the Saulsberrys, Vitali and
Emily Brown-Phillips) finished in the same position.
