NORTHFIELD, Minn. --- The 2026 MIAC Outdoor Championships kicked off at Saint Olaf College, bringing the region's best multi-event athletes together for a test of versatility and endurance. Representing Hamline University,
Alan Haglin and
Brooke Baumann navigated their respective decathlon and heptathlon fields, proving that the "multis" are as much a mental game as they are a physical one.
In the men's decathlon,
Alan Haglin secured an 11th-place finish by amassing 5,137 total points over the ten-event gauntlet. Haglin set a strong tone early on the track, clocking a 11.78-second 100m dash and maintaining that momentum through the 110m hurdles with a solid time of 16.85 seconds. His field performance was highlighted by a 5.80m mark in the long jump and a clear of 3.42m in the pole vault, which helped him stay competitive in a deep collegiate field. Haglin also recorded a 1.62m high jump and tossed the discus 29.65m before eventually crossing the 1500m finish line in 5:04.46 to cap off his championship weekend.
On the women's side,
Brooke Baumann represented the Pipers in the heptathlon, finishing 18th overall with a final score of 3,264 points. Baumann's tenacity was on full display during the running events, particularly in the 800m where she posted a time of 2:36.00 to earn her highest single-event score of 620 points. She also showed impressive speed in the 200m dash, crossing the line in 28.18 seconds. In the field events, Baumann notched a shot put mark of 8.92m and a 4.40m long jump, successfully navigating the high-stakes weekend of competition held from late April through early May.
Both athletes demonstrated the grit required to complete these demanding disciplines, holding their own against the top talent in the MIAC.
