Box Score Hamline men's hockey team is off to its best conference start in five seasons. The Pipers improved to 3-0-3 in league play with a 3-0 win over St. Olaf Saturday in Northfield. They had goalieÂ
John Sellie-Hanson to thank for a large part of this win.
The Fargo, ND native kicked aside 44 shots -- 35 of which came in the last two periods -- for his second shutout of the season. HU got goals from
Jaycob McCombs, Cody Mason and
Brandon Reinholz as they continued this remarkable turnaround under first year head coach
Cory Laylin.Â
HU, which won just three games the past two seasons, is now 7-4-4 overall. The Pipers took the lead late in the first period on McCombs' third goal of the weekend, a power play effort. Mason made it 2-0 with a solo effort five minutes into the second period.Â
The game stayed at 2-0 until the final 70 seconds. That's when Reinholz found the empty net to seal the deal. Hamline, the only team in the league still undefeated in conference play, is now tied for second place in the MIAC with 13 points. They will face the team closest to them in the standings -- St. Thomas (12 points) next weekend in a home and home series. The teams play Friday night at Oscar Johnson Arena (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday in Mendota Heights (7:30 p.m.). Â
