Going against a talented field of D-II and D-III competitors, the Hamline women's track and field team fared quite well in their first full-fledged outing -- a non-scoring meet at St. Thomas January 23. The Pipers registered 13 top five finishes, including one victory and three runnerup efforts.Â
Carolyn Saulsberry had the triumph. Her Triple Jump of 36-00Â was two feet better than the rest of the field. It is the best leap so far by a MIACer this year and ranks 18th nationally.Â
Jessica Putland pulled in a pair of second place showings in the Shot Put (43-0.25) and Weight Throw (51-02.75). She, too, leads the MIAC in the shot putand sits 12th nationally. Teammates
Jerri Koltveit (42-06)Â and
Erin Urbanowicz (42-02.75) were fourth and fifth in this event. They rank 2-3 in the MIAC and 16th and 21st in the country.) Putland is also 18th ranked in the weight throw. Urbanowicz was fifth in that competition as well with a 48-08.25 heave.
Izzy Shafer zipped to a fourth place finish in the 60 Meters (8.22 seconds -- shaving time off her qualifying performance).
Brenna Kennedy (2:42.46) and
Alyssa Nash (2:42.67) were a close 4-5 in the 800 Meter Run.
Briana Baker had a fifth place in the 600 Meters (1:42.84) as did
Sara Nester in the Long Jump (15-04.25). In addition, the 4 x 200 relay team was second and a pair of Piper teams ran 3-4 in the 4 x 400 relay race.Â
