Joe Rubbelke had a goal and an assist and goalie
John Sellie-Hanson (pictured) made it stand up with a 30 save effort in a gritty 2-0 win over Concordia in Moorhead Friday night. The victory was worth a big three points and vaulted the Pipers into a third place tie with St. Mary's and Gustavus Adolphus with a 4-2-3 MIAC mark. Each team has 16 points. The Pipers and Cardinals have played two less games than the Gusties.Â
Rubbelke, a two-time All-MIAC choice, snared his first goal of the season at 18:04, finishing off a three-way play with
Charlie Adams and
Jonny Gehrt. The Pipers controlled the play, holding a 13-7 edge in shots on goal. The Cobbers picked up the pace from there, holding 11-6 and 12-10 shot advantages the next two frames. Sellie-Hanson, however, foiled them all night to record his third shutout of the season. It was also the first time CC had been scoreless in 73 games.
Brandon Zurn capped the evening with an empty net goal in the final minute of play. Rubbelke and Adams, who led Hamline's 29 shot on goal attack with seven, drew assists on that one as Hamline improved to 8-6-4 overall.Â
The same two teams meet again Saturday in Moorhead. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
