McPherson Snares Pair for M Hockey at Eau Claire

12/12/2015 9:25:00 PM

Box Score It was Mitch McPherson's turn to be in the scoring spotlight. The freshman winger had both goals in a 4-2 non-conference men's hockey loss at UW-Eau Claire Saturday night. McPherson, who now has seven goals for the year, was the only Piper who could get a puck past UWEC goalie Tyler Green, who kicked out 32 shots.

His counterpart, HU netminder John Sellie-Hanson, was also busy, finishing with 36 saves.

McPherson (pictured) got things off to a good start when he tipped a shot home for a power play goal 6:50 into the game. The Blugolds tied it up with a power play marker of their own three minutes later and that is the way the game stayed for the next 39 minutes.

The Blugolds grabbed a 2-1 lead nine minutes into the third period but McPherson evened matters with a bullet from the slot on a power play at 15:47. Charlie Adams, who teamed with Mitch Hall on the first goal, combined with Brandon Zurn on this tally. Adams leads all D-III players in points with 27 and Zurn is second with 26.

Alas, UWEC banged a rebound past Sellie-Hanson a minute later and added an empty netter to seal the verdict. HU is 4-6-3 overall. They are idle until January 7 when they travel to UW-Stevens Point for a non-conference game.
