Box Score Six weeks into the Division III men's hockey season, one thing remains constant:Â
Brandon Zurn continues to find the net. The senior scored twice for Hamline in a 5-3 loss to St. Thomas Saturday night at Oscar Johnson Arena. Zurn's 11 goals leads the MIAC and is second in the country to Mike Davis of Neumann, who has 12.Â
Zurn's second tally of the night gave HU a 3-2 lead early in the third period. the Tommies, however, rallied to tie the score and then took the lead on a power play goal with 2:07 left in the game. UST added an empty netter to finish off a sweep of the weekend series, dropping the Pipers to 4-5-2 overall, 1-4-1 in the MIAC. The result was all the more frustrating because Hamline outshot St. Thomas, 39-30, for the game.Â
The night started well for the Pipers.Â
Mitch McPherson plucked a puck out of midair and batted it home 3:48 into the game to give Hamline the lead. Zurn made it 2-0 at 2:38 of the second period, finishing off a nifty three play with linematesÂ
Charlie Adams and McPherson. The Tommies came back with two goals to tie the game at 2.
It stayed that way untilÂ
Andrew Paras found Zurn in front and gave Hamline the third period lead that, alas, didn't hold up. Zurn and Adams now have 22 points apiece and continue to lead the country in that statistic.Â
John Sellie-Hanson recorded 25 saves in the HU goal.Â
The Pipers have a pair of non-conference games next week -- Tuesday at UW-River Falls and Saturday at UW-Eau Claire.Â
