On a day known for roses, there were a lot of bouquets that could be thrown in the direction of the Hamline women's track and field team. The Pipers overwhelmed five contenders to win the Meet of Hearts Invitational Saturday at Carleton College in Northfield. Hamline won eight in all with
Izzy Shafer, Jessica Putland and
Carolyn Saulsberry taking two each.
Merina Lenz, Briana Baker and
Danielle Zweifelhofer added second place finsihes as Hamline totaled 130 points, 11 more than the second place host school.Â
Shafer sprinted to victory in the 55 Meters (7.55 seconds) and the 200 meters (26.84). Saulsbery claimed top honors in the 55 Meter Hurdles (8.75 seconds) and in the Triple Jump (10.75 meters). Putland (pictured) won the Shot Put (13.41m) and Weight Throw competition (15.33 m - a season high and second in the MIAC this year). Lenz was second in the Pole Vault (10' 3/4 -- third best in the MIAC this year). Zweifelhofer was second in the Long Jump (4.89m) Â and Baker did likewise in the 600 Meters (1:43.84).Â
