Pipers Finish Second at Meet of Hearts

Both Hamline track and field teams finished a strong second at the annual Carleton Meet of Hearts held in Northfield February 13. 

The men's team scored 139 points, topping six competitors and trailing only UW-River Falls, who finished with 161 points. The women totaled 124, trailing only the host school, who finished with 130.50 points. 

On the men's side, the Pipers grabbed the top five spots in the Shot Put. Travis Jacobson won it followed by Chase Duwenhoegger, Mitchell Maday, Eric Dols and Pierce Heston. Jacobson was second in the Weight Throw with Ray Culp coming in third. The men also received second place efforts from Dylan Olson (55 meters), Isaac Krause (600), Joe Matheson (Pole Vault), Jaimen Hampton (Long Jump) and Sam Jewson (1000). 

On the women's side, Carolyn Saulsberry (pictured)  flew to victory in the 55 Hurdles, edging out teammate Gabrielle Brown. Anna Futterer was fourth and Gabby Koel fifth in the same event. Saulsberry finished a double with a win in the Long Jump. Her 17-4 effort is a new school record, breaking the mark of 17-0 achieved by Christine Walsten in 2004. The 4 x 200 Relay team was also triumphant. Allyson Opps took a second in the Weight Throw with Izzy Shafer (55 Meters), Holly Hankins (800) and Jordan Walls (Pole Vault) recording third place finishes.
