It's on to the meat of the MIAC schedule for the Hamline men's tennis team. Coach Jon Henning's bunch went 2-3 on their Florida swing. They finished with three matches in a little over 24 hours. On Sunday, March 20, they played twice, defeating Union, 6-3 before falling to Carthage later in the day, 8-1. On Monday, March 21, they dropped a 7-2 decision to St. Scholastica.
As a result, the Pipers come home with a 7-7 overall mark. They stand 0-3 in MIAC play with six matches remaining. The Pipers parlayed four singles wins and a pair of doubles wins to defeat Union. Cody Jahrig and Matt Seracki had duplicate 6-2 wins at Nos. 2 & 3 singles. Ben Ekstein did even at No. 5 with a 6-2, 6-0 win while Ben Klimek fought his way to 7-6, 6-4 triumphs.
In doubles, Jahrig and David Yanagita won a hard-fought 8-6 dual at No. 1 with the Gabe Guarin-Sam Peterson duo doing likewise at No. 3.
Things went a lot tougher against the Redmen with only Riley Pratt winning a three-setter at No. 6 singles.
No. 6 proved to be the winning number against the Saints as Ben Klimek battled to 6-2, 7-5 wins. Yanagita and Jahrig scored a solid 8-4 win in doubles.
Hamline is off until April 2 when they take on St. Olaf int heir home opener at Holt Courts. The match begins at 1:00 p.m.
