It wasn't her career best. But it was enough to win the race -- and that was all that mattered Saturday to Hamline sprinter Gabrielle Brown. Brown won 100 Meter Hurdles to help Hamline's women's track and field team to a fourth place finish at the annual Janis Rider Meet held at Macalester College April 30. The freshman (including two teammates -- Carolyn Saulsberry and Anna Futterer) in 15.10 seconds. It was one of two triumphs on the day for the Pipers. Gabby Koel, the reigning MIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, bested the field in the Discus with a 43.50 meter throw.

Brown  (pictured) has the second fastest time of any MIACer this spring with a 14.76 clocking. Her winning time, on a cold raw day, was 6/10th of a season better than the rest of the field. Saulsberry was fifth and Futterer was sixth. Brown also ran in the 200 Meter Dash, finishing ninth. Marissa Fiecke also had an impressive effort. The freshman was third in the 400 Meter Dash in 1:00.54. Sarissa Falk was fourth in the 5000 Meter run in 20:08.55.

HU had a field day in the Field events. Koel entered the day as the MIAC leader in the Discus. She expanded on her previous best effort  by nearly two meters. Ivannie Robertson came in third with a 35.81 throw. Robertson, a sophomore, was also third in the Shot Put (11.91).  Saulsberry was the top college competitor in the triple Jump with a 11.14 meter performance -- the best total recorded this season by a MIAC leaper.

Hamline ended the day with 69 points, beating four MIAC rivals.

The Pipers have two dress rehearsals before the MIAC Outdoor Track/Field Meet in Collegeville in mid-May. They will run at St. Thomas on May 4. HU hosts the annual Meet of the UnSaintly at Klas Field May 6-7.
