Box Score Not all ties are like kissing your sister. For the second night in a row, Hamline extricated a second point from Augsburg when
Brady Crabtree (pictured) scored on the 10th shot of the shootout to break a 2-2 tie and give the Pipers an extra point in the game at Augsburg Arena in Minneapolis. It was the third time this season the teams have gone to a shootout against each other. Hamline, which won Friday night's affair in this fashion at Oscar Johnson Arena, moved into a three-way tie for second place with St. Mary's and Augsburg at 26 points, two behind league leader St. Thomas.
Hamline is closing in on a playoff berth for the third year in a row. The Pipers are 7-4-3 in MIAC play and 10-8-5 overall. Saturday's game was their ninth OT game of the season.
It took a a late rally to even get to the extra time.
HU was down 2-0 when
Russ Jordan, who leads the MIAC in goals and points, delivered his league-leading 18th netter of the season at 17:21 to make it 2-1. Goalie
Justin Quale was pulled for a sixth attacker with 58 seconds left and
Mitch McPherson justified the move with a goal with 14 seconds remaining to force overtime.
Quale, who was magnificent all night, recorded three saves to finish the night with 45 stops -- two short of his career high. The game went into the shootout with Quale and Jordyn Kaufer for Augsburg standing tall with nine stops apiece. On the 10th try, Augsburg missed and Crabtree, who does not have an official goal this season, connected to give HU the extra point. The 10 shot shootout is the second longest in MIAC history.
Hamline is off next weekend. They wrap up with a home and home series against Gustavus Adolphus, Feb, 17-18.
