Box Score From the goal line on out, it might have been the most complete effort of the season for the Hamline men's hockey team Friday night against St. Olaf in Northfield.
The timing could not have been better.
Evan Robert earned his first collegiate shutout with 25 saves and the Pipers got goals from four different sources in recording a 5-0 victory over the Oles. The win improved the team's overall record to 6-10-1 and their MIAC standard to 2-6-1.
Mitch McPherson scored twice with
Brandon Reinholz,
Russ Jordan and
Riley Tigrett getting single tallies as part of a 42 shot assault on the Ole net by HU.
McPherson got things going early, converting a feed from Garret Schmitz at 5:05. Reinholz made it 2-0 eight minutes later on a three way play with Jordan and
Jesse Kessler. McPherson struck again 1:49 into the second period for his league leading 14th goal of the year to up the margin later to 3-0. Jordan, who has four goals and four assists in his last four games and Tigrett added shorthanded tallies to close out the scoring.
At the other end, Robert continued his fine work in goal, lowering his goals-against average to 2.85. After giving up six goals in his first start, the freshman has allowed just 11 in his next five.
The same teams meet again Saturday at TRIA Rink in St. Paul. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
