HU Pat Paterson Award finalists announced

ST. PAUL, Minn. - This year's candidates for the Pat Paterson Award have been announced - Grace Trocinske from women's soccer, Helen Dolan from women's cross country and track and field, and Madison Hurrle from volleyball. The 2021 Honors Day winners will be announced on Thursday, June 10.
 
The Pat Paterson Award recognizes one female senior student-athlete for their outstanding academic achievement. It is given to the student-athlete who has the highest GPA and who has made significant contributions to her sport.

The award is named after Patricia Garletz Paterson, class of 1930, who was an advocate for women's sports and promoter of lifelong fitness. Paterson taught physical education at Hamline for over 40 years.

-Named to the MIAC All-Academic team three times
-Named to the All-Conference Honorable Mention team in 2017, while being voted HU MVP
-Served as a team captain for the 2019 and 2020-21 seasons
-Involved in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Hamline Accounting Association
-Played in 42 career games, tallying over 3,300 minutes as a Piper
 
Helen Dolan     |     Women's Cross Country and Track and Field     |     Holliston, Mass.
-Named to the USTFCCCA Academic All-American team seven times while also earning six MIAC All-Academic honors
-Three-time All-American, placing 37th at the 2019 NCAA Cross Country Championships (22:04.0), qualifying in the mile at the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships, and placing eighth in the 5000-meter run at the 2021 Outdoor Championships (17:02.40)
-Earned eight All-Region honors in her career - two in cross country, three in the 800-meter run, one in the mile run, and one in the 5000-meter run
-Named to the All-Conference Team nine times and the All-Conference Honorable Mention Team four times
-Placed eighth at the MIAC Cross Country Championships in 2018 and fifth in 2019, while also winning the 1500-meter run in 2019 and being a part of the 2021 first place 4x800-meter relay team
-Holds school records in the indoor mile (5:01.05), the indoor 3000-meter run (9:57.02), the outdoor 5000-meter run (16:56.99), and the outdoor 4x800-meter relay (9:23.77)
 
Madison Hurrle     |     Volleyball     |     Kimball, Minn.
-Named to the MIAC All-Academic Team twice
-Earned Hamline Athlete of the Week honors on September 4, 2018 after registering 46 kills and 14 blocks as the Pipers went 3-0 to start the season
-Led the Pipers offensively in her two years playing for HU, tallying 571 kills in her 52 matches played
-Recorded 315 kills in her junior season, hitting for a team-best .266 average, while averaging 3.94 points per set, which ranked sixth in the MIAC
-Ranks ninth in the Hamline history books in single-season hitting percentage (.285)
