Box Score Well, take a look at who is in suddenly in the middle of the race for men's soccer playoff spots.
The Hamline Pipers, that's who.
Picked for ninth place in the preseason coaches' poll, HU moved into a tie for fourth place in the MIAC with Carleton after a come-from-behind 2-1 win at St. Mary's Saturday night.Â
The homestanding Cardinals struck first, garnering a goal nine minutes into the game. But that was goalieÂ
Dean Isaacson would allow.
Abbai Habte continued to have the hot foot, tying the game with his seventh goal of the year -- and fifth in his last three games -- seven minutes. (The senior is now second in the MIAC in tallies and third in points with 17.)Â
Trevor Lewellen, who would later take part in the goal that decided the game, drew the assist.
The game remained stuck at 1 through the rest of the half. It didn't stay that way for long in the second half. Lewellen started the play andÂ
Oscar Campbell (with ball) ended it with his first goal of the season just 82 seconds into the second half. The Pipers kept the Cardinals away from Isaacson until the last eight seconds when the freshman goalie was called upon to make his fourth -- and final -- save of the night.
As a result, the Pipers now stand 3-1-1 in MIAC play. The win -- their third in a row -- also propelled the Pipers' overall mark to 5-5-2 -- the first time the school has been .500 or better this late in a men's soccer season since 2007. Ironically, Hamline returns home to face Carleton at Paterson Field on Wednesday, October 14. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
