Box Score The Hamline men's soccer team is making head coach
Alex Morawiecki's goal of making Paterson Field an uncomfortable place to play a reality. HU improved to 6-1-1 at home this year with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Augsburg Saturday afternoon.
Trevor Lewellen (pictured) and
Adam King had the goals to help Hamline improve to 8-4-2 overall, 2-3-1 in the MIAC.
Dean Isaacson did his part as well. The sophomore goalie was superb, making nine saves -- including three in the first three minutes of play.
It was a scoreless game when Lewellen, stationed in front of the Auggie net, side kicked a ball in mid-air home for his third goal of the season at 38:32.
Adam King made it 2-0 at 59:09, taking a nice pass from
Trevor Tallaksen and drilling a shot into the low left corner of the net. The freshman now has five goals and is tied with
Ben Sorenson for the team lead in that department.
The Auggies, who outshot HU by an overall margin of 18-6, kept pressing and cut the lead to 2-1 with 11:49 left int he game. The Pipers tightened from there and claimed the three points for the win. They are now tied with Carleton with eight points, two behind St. Mary's, which holds the sixth and last playoff spot.
Hamline hosts Northwestern (MN) on Monday, October 17 at Paterson Field. Game time is 4:00 p.m. A win there would give Hamline nine overall wins, which would be their best total in a decade. HU hosts St. John's on Saturday, October 22 at Paterson in a 3:30 p.m. game.
