Box Score Adam King struck early.
Dean Isaacson saved early ... and late. This combination plus a lot of action in between worked together to lift the Hamline men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Carleton Saturday at Paterson Field. The Pipers inched back over the .500 mark overall at 4-3 and evened their MIAC slate at 1-1 with the tight triumph.
King leads the Pipes and ranks third in the MIAC in points with 10 on three goals and four assists. Goal No. 3 came just 5:02 into the game off a nice feed from
Stefan Kinsinger. The sophomore forward leads the MIAC with 28 shot attempts. 18 of those have landed on goal, also the highwater mark for the league.
HU held much of the play in the first half, outshooting the Knights by an overall 7-2 margin.
The second half was a different matter. Carleton cranked it up, unleashing 12 shots -- five of which were thwarted by Isaacson for saves. The junior goalie and his defensive unit stayed the course for his third shutout of this season and 12th in his college career. Isaacson has 24 saves this season, second best in the MIAC and his goals-against average is now at 1.00.
HU has a non-conference date at Wisconsin-Superior on Wednesday, September 20. They get back into the MIAC swing of things September 23 against Concordia at Paterson Field. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
