Box Score This time, Hamline's men's soccer used a quick strike method of scoring to its own advantage. The Pipers had a pair of lightning scoring thrusts and rode them to a 5-1 win over Northland College at Paterson Field.
Andy Rios (pictured) scored twice with
Stefan Kinsinger,
Adam King and
Trevor Lewellen adding solo shots as HU improved to 2-1 on the season.
Kinsinger got things off on the right foot, knocking the rebound of a King shot into the net with just 100 seconds of play consumed. Less than two minutes later, Rios boomed a free kick from just outside the box and Hamline was quickly ahead 2-0. King made it 3-0 later in the half. The Lumberjacks got one back shortly before halftime but Rios' second of the game (on a feed from King) and Lewellen's nifty header off a
James Reardon feed that came just 63 seconds apart early in the second half put the game out of reach.
HU held a 16-2 edge in shots on goal, a 26-3 advantage in total shots taken and took 12 corner kicks to the Lumberjacks' two.
It was a successful first start in goal for sophomore
Malachy Zamacona. The North St. Paul, Minn. native recorded two saves to earn the win.
Hamline remains home to face Wis-Platteville Friday, September 8 at Paterson Field. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
