Senior Spotlight: Savanna Keiser

Despite having their seasons cut short, the Hamline athletic department would like to recognize and honor the 2020 senior spring class of student-athletes. These 37 individuals have made a lasting impact on their program and the Hamline campus as a whole. Savanna Keiser   |   Track and Field   |   Chemistry Major
Savanna Keiser has been a four-year member of the track and field team, scoring in both the Indoor and Outdoor MIAC Championships for the Pipers. As a first year, she earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors in the discuss with a throw of 37.25 meters. Her outdoor sophomore season, she became a MIAC Champion in the shot put, with a distance of 12.47 meters. During 2019, Keiser scored for Hamline in both indoor and outdoor, earning two more Honorable Mention nods, with a fifth-place finish in the shot put (12.37 meters) in the indoor season and a fourth-place finish in the discuss (38.71 meters) in the outdoor season. This past indoor season, she also scored for HU, taking eighth in shot put with a mark of 11.99 meters. On campus, Keiser is also involved with Chem Club.
 
What were you most looking forward to for this spring season?
I was looking forward to competing with my teammates, especially in Arizona.
 
What is one of your favorite memories of your time at Hamline?
There are so many, but one of them would be freshman year the first time I threw really far in discus and the overwhelming feeling of support/congratulations I received from not only my coach, but also all  my teammates.
 
Who is someone that has had a positive impact on you during your time as a student-athlete?
My throws coach, Josh Blaschko.
 
What is your advice for your younger teammates?
Enjoy every second, soak it all up, and remember on the hard/frustrating days that it's all worth it.
 
What are you most proud of about your career as a student-athlete?
I'm most proud of the progress I've made athletically, academically, and in life in general.
