Track & Field Teams Opened Indoor Season at St. Thomas Invite

RESULTS

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University track & field teams opened their indoor season at the St. Thomas Invitational on Friday.

WOMEN

Lexi Brainer commanded the Pipers field athletes with a first-place toss of 16.70m in the weight throw. Brooke Tracy also prevailed in the weight throw with a 14.29m, good enough for fourth place. Desirae Dates was lethal in the shot put, where she notched second place with a 11.85m. Lena Sampy followed Dates in fourth place with a 10.68m.  Frankie Witham cleared the bar at 1.54m in the high jump en route to fifth place. 

MEN

Ricky Kwabena Yawson's first collegiate heat in the 60-meter dash prelims resulted in a school-record time of 6.95. The mark secured him fifth place and a spot in the finals, where he notched a 6.97 en route to fourth place. Kwabena Yawson's 6.95 in the prelims broke Tom Larson's (2015) previous school record time of 6.99.

Austin Schloeder claimed the pole vault title with a 4.30m. Isaiah Watson kept the titles going with a 13.06m in the triple jump.

Oliver Engstrom followed Schloeder in second place with a 3.70m in the pole vault, while Ian Cran took third with a 3.55m. Jackson Lightner clocked in a 8.62 in the 60 meter hurdles, good enough for second place. Morris Suah was on Lightner's heels with a third-place time of 8.64. 

Fourth place was in the cards for Jarod Timlin in the long jump with a leap of 6.59m. Watson wasn't far behind Timlin with a fifth-place leap of 6.39m. Abdoul Gueye topped out at 1.75m in the high jump, which put him in fifth place. 

The Pipers will compete at the St. Olaf Quad and Multi on Friday, January 24 and 25.
